"I've faced violent storms in life," says Janet, who also lost her vision in her 30's due to Retinitis Pigmentosa. "But I found that life is not about what you cannot do because of circumstances out of your control," she says. "Success comes when you recognize what you can do with what God has given you." "Trials of Today, Treasures for Tomorrow: Overcoming Adversities in Life" was published in 2004. "I wrote the book because I needed to give back what I'd received-peace in the midst of pain and serenity to dispel my sorrow," Janet explains. "With a blend of vivid illustrations and a touch of humor, I take my readers through a path God has provided-from the stress we face to the success we desire." Janet is a contributing author to several additional books. Her magazine articles with messages of hope and encouragement are included in numerous publications including Today's Christian, Light and Life Magazine, SEEK!, The Christian Communicator, Spirit-Led Writer, Praise Magazine, Christian Woman Today, Spiritual Voices, Faith Writers, Write to the Heart; as well as several secular publications. Her column, "Janet's Corner" appears in a local and regional publication. Janet is a CLASS graduate (Christian Leaders, Authors, Speakers Services), a Toastmasters CTM, member of Word Weavers of Orlando, American Christian Fiction Writers and The Writer's View. She is the Founder of Islands of Peace Ministries, serves in the Prayer Support for Women ministry and is a board member of Disability Media, Inc. She is a "She Speaks" graduate with Proverbs 31 Ministries, and an online missionary for Campus Crusade for Christ. She is also a Sunday school teacher and works on community evangelical ministries. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Southeast Missouri State University and is the recipient of the Professional Excellence Award by the world's largest over-the-phone interpreting company. In her career as a certified Spanish court interpreter, she uses her skills to help remove language barriers and to train and coach other interpreters across the country, Panama, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. Her work has been featured in the New York Times and other major publications. "The deepest desire of my heart is to serve Christ and to serve you as an inspiration." Janet says, "I apply this principle as I begin each day. Some might think that because I'm blind, I wake up each morning and sink my feet into a cold bucket of self-pity. It's quite the opposite. Able to 'see' all the blessings around me warms my heart with gratitude. Allow me to share some of them with you as you stroll through the pages of this web site." |
"Watch where you put things, honey!" Janet warns her husband. She certainly wants to avoid what happened some months ago when she grabbed the bottle of hair spray. Only after she soaked her head, she noticed that it didn't hold as other hair sprays had. "What kind of hair spray is this?" she asked her husband. "Hair spray?" he asked with a baffled tone. "Love, that's the jewelry cleaner we bought at the mall." |

The warm tropical breezes in Janet's Florida home are a contrast to the cold winds from the Andes Mountains in her homeland of La Paz, Bolivia where she left when she was twelve years old. Gene is the love of her life and husband of 31 years. Her two sons, Jason (with wife Rachel) and Jeff, also live in Orlando; and her youngest, Joe, lives in the glory of heaven. |
Those are the elements that sing through each of Janet's pages--as well as her messages--emotions that color one's world, passion for the Lord and the truth of His Word. |
"...Jan's faith inspired mine in so many ways ... She has the gift of telling truth in love that so many people need to hear. She relies on hope in God to give her an inward joy that is contagious..." - Heather Ivester |
... there is something about you that makes me want to be like you...must be Jesus! I was telling someone 'It is not every day you meet someone you want to copy or imitate, but I want to imitate this lady'!' -Sylvia |
