“Oh, you poor thing,” my friend’s email read. “I’m worried about you. You’re burning the candle at both ends. You must take lots of vitamins. Are you getting enough sleep?”
I grinned when I read that. Although Sundays I relish in a full day of rest, from Mondays to Saturdays my days are full.
But my problem isn’t tackling the tasks before me; my problem is choosing which I love the most—writing sassy chapters for my new book, traveling to speaking engagements, writing blogs like this one. Working on my personal success coaching or hosting radio shows. Or is it my work as a Spanish interpreter?
To most, this busyness for a blind person might seem too much. And it would be for me to if I thought for a minute that it was my abilities that sustained my schedule.
Years ago, that notion flew out the window. The eyes of my heart delight on a different scenery–my passion is fueled by gratitude to the Lord. My energy is fed by His power. My wisdom through His promises and my confidence because of His Word.
Confession time: When I was sighted, I was even busier—with finding ways to fill a nagging void in my heart. With coveting others’ accomplishments. With efforts to cover up insecurities. And with futile efforts to catch the wind called success.
Now a bit wiser, the eyes of my heart are focused in God’s loving provision while my heart echoes: “You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest” (Psalm 139:3 [NLV]).
Father, how foolish I had been to trace my own path, to trust in my abilities and follow my plans. Thank you for guiding my life that is now under your power and might. In Jesus’ name, amen
