She didn’t really love him…

That morning, like many others, she woke up next to the man she didn’t really love. What she loved was the idea he would fill the void in her heart. She didn’t expect it. She had no clue that today would be the day. At noon, under the hot sun, with her arm wrapped around her water jar, she shuffled toward the well. And there she met, there she encounter the real man who would bring the freedom, the fullness and fulfillment she thirst for. “He [Jesus] told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.” “I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.” John 4: The woman has no name in Scripture. But her name could be mine, it could be yours. The fact is that Jesus knows the secrets that are tucked in the compartment in our heart marked “shame” or “insecurities” or even “heartache.” But Jesus didn’t analyze them. Instead, He washed all traces of dark notions, of past mistakes and of insecurities. He rinsed them all clean with the living water. And if you have been drinking the world’s murky water of unmet desires, Jesus is whispering to you, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:14-15. Prayer Lord, I confess to sipping the murky water of past mistakes, decisions and choices. I accept the water you offer to wash out the debris that had tainted my soul. I will relish in my new fresh beginning, clean and free. Blindness tried to darken her life. Tragedy tried to defeat her.
